Dalston Superstars is a new series from Vice.com which satirises the latest contenders in UK reality TV hell, such as Made In Chelsea. They have pitched it as The Only Way Is Essex, but more swag and describe it as a startling, fresh look at the lives of five young creatives from London’s coolest hangout, Dalston. Dalston became what Shoreditch was a few years ago, ie. a hipster’s paradise, and Superstars is in effect the modern day, multimedia version of Shoreditch Twat. Now that London’s posh and chav-tastic have had their 15 minutes, it’s clear that Vice are urgently addressing the need to represent The Big Smoke’s deluded and pretentious too.
Episode 1 has just launched today, although various blogs and Twitter accounts linked to the program’s characters have been online in the build up to the launch. It’s a #Win from us.
Who’d have thought everyone’s favourite gap-toothed lazy-eyed smug-faced freckly cartoon brat from their youth was capably alert enough to be at the forefront of today’s Urgent Genius phenomenon? Yes Mad Magazine’s Alfred E. Neuman is still with us in the form of The Idiotical, the official blog for the 59 year old title.
‘The Editors’ there serve up a delightful selection of madish responses to contemporary goings-ons such as the conviction of Michael Jackson’s Killer and Stephen Tyler’s recent ‘tumble’ and consequential resemblance to Nueman himself, in amongst more conventional corporate blogging fare such as inane coverage of their latest office relocation.
