Ad Age ran a story on Duracell’s Rapid Responder a few days ago and Contagious have just picked up on it too. The brand rolled out its Power Forward Community Center a couple of years ago and the Rapid Responder 4X4 mobile unit this year. The responder has come into its own as it’s now roaming the streets of Lower Manhatten and their power relief center has been set up in Battery Park – this was a fluke according to Win Sakdinan, a Duracell Spokesman, Battery Park just happened to be one the hardest hit parts of the city. The 4×4 and the centre are charging stations for phones and mobile devices. They also have a wifi internet connection allowing people to check their social accounts and email. Duracell batteries are being distributed from both units to help power New Yorkers radios and torches. It’s a great gesture from the brand and a perfect fit with the product. Battery Park being the location for the centre could be interpreted as a bit cheesy but it’s helped generate significant PR coverage.
