Mexico City has launched a real-time app that may save hundreds of thousands of lives. Not bad for a day’s work. The city’s civil protection authority has teamed with BlackBerry to lunch a new app that lets folks know a quake is coming roughly five seconds before it arrives. While this may not sound like long to prepare, authorities believe this will give people an opportunity to seek a safe position, warn others and save lives.
How did BlackBerry achieve this real-time feat of life-saving tech? It approached Mexico’s Seismological Service, which monitors seismic activity around the region and was awarded the job because its technology can push mass alerts to individuals faster than other provider. Have you seen any other apps that deliver real-time information as useful as this? Let us know in the comments.
