All systems blow

Do your home videos look boring?

Perhaps they need more explosions. In which case, Bad Robot can help you.

The force behind Hollywood’s most explosive bombastic, all-action, explosive (did we mention explosive?) titles including ‘Alias’ and ‘Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol’, Bad Robot know their film effects. But this is the first time they’ve taken it to the masses, with an iPhone app allowing users to explode the scenery, drop cars from the skies or bring friends and foes down in a hail of bullets.

Bad Robot released this App to coincide with the imminent release of Ghost Protocol. The Urgent Genius of this idea was that after spending a fair amount of time blowing up fellow colleagues and letting cars roll onto their unsuspecting heads, I had a slight urge to watch more things explode. I’m not suggesting that it made me feel impulsed to buy a ticket to the film. That said, it certainly did provide a gentle nudge reminding me that there would be plenty more destruction if I did decide to venture to the big screen and see Mr. Cruise in all his glory.

The basic app is free for a limited period, and additional effects can be bought including ‘Chopper Down/Tornado Action Bundle’, or the marvellously named ‘Fire Fight Attack’. Ever wanted to see a battalion of fire fighters crash your great-aunt’s 80th birthday? Or perhaps recreate Cloverfield on your own suburban street?
Now you can…

A cheesy app

Domino’s Pizza (they of previous social media experiment the Dominos Pizza Tracker) have done it again in simple, witty style with the Cheese Font. We’d love to see it taken further with a pret-a-pizza customisation service (take note, Dominos. We’re willing to spend extra for a pizza with a message.)

We can’t help wonder if they were inspired by cheeseorfont.com, the meme-tastic quiz that throws names of fonts and cheeses at users and asks them to tell the difference. Either way, though, it’s a charmingly simple effort that we’ll happily kill five minutes messing around with…
